...of 4wd high.? In January 2009 I had my transmition rebuilt for $3600 and the break pads or something were changed. I have a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, on the rebuilt transmition. Not sure what to do? I am broke from the transmition repair, luckily I work at home so it is not an emergency but at some point will need this fixed. any help
Is the truck going in and out of 4x4 high on it's own?

Yes I am not pushing the button.

Also, is the 4x4 high actually engaging or is it just trying to and stopping.

Not sure if it is engaging, what would that feel like?

There is a mechanism which prevents the 4wd from engaging when the vehicle is moving past a certain speed, it does not prevent the Transfer Case motor from trying to engage. Do you hear any clicking, etc, when it is engaging?

I don't hear any clicking.

When I was backing up it started to lerch a little.

Any idea why the brake light would be coming on too, that is what happened first?

It sounds more like an electrical issue. Is the truck going in and out of 4x4 high on it's own? Also, is the 4x4 high actually engaging or is it just trying to and stopping. I would take the truck back to the dealer that rebuilt the transmission and have them look at it. They should at least diagnose the situation for you, as it is likely it could be related to their transmission installation.
