I have 2 male betta fish in the same tank?

well the other day I bought a 4 gallon tank with an air pump and light for my betta fish... and my dad wanted me to get another betta fish i knew they would fight so I got a tank that was made just for betta fish. That means the tank came with a separator. Having both males in one tank all they do is stare each other down and attempt to attack eachother but they always end up hitting the separator!!! is this ok... I know they're supposed to fight but I'm afraid my bettas will hurt themselves if they keep hitting the separator every 5 seconds..... I just thought they would settle their differences by now lol... it's been 2 days
 
I used to have two male betta fish and to stop them from fighting or hitting a separator I just got two small fishbowls and put them in there. they did stare at each other but didn't hit the glass. I think you should give this a try and see what happends.
 
it's fine let them stare at each other when they flare it is exercise for them as well......DO NOT REMOVE SEPARATOR UNLESSS YOU WANT 1 DEAD BETTA. Cause they will fight to the death..and they are actually not meant for fighting much...fighting is just harsh for them
 
thats not a good idea they can get hurt hitting themselves or die from stress ive tried putting 2 female bettas together and they were trying to kill each other it scared me so i took one out and took it back to the pet store lol
 
some bettas are much more agressive than others. obviosly, one or both of yours is pretty agressive. they will never settle down, only when they are exhausted will they seem to have adjusted. they will die of stress and or exhaustion if you dont seperate them, try blocking the divider with plants or decorations so they can see each other.

also. those betta tanks are deathtraps. bettas are tropical fish that need a heater, and a filter. they require a steady temperature of 82 degrees. they should be able to swim, wich they can not really do in a tank less then 5 gallons. they are carnivours, and need freeze dried blood worms a few times a week to give them enough protein to live a long life. bettas can live for 10 years when they are properly cared for.
