I hate going to the cinema because other people go too...

Before Cineworld took over the UGC in Glasgow the staff used to be really good for keeping an eye on people during busy screenings. There had been a number of times where some kiRAB were talking for them to be thrown out before anyone had even got up to tell a member of staff. So I guess they must have kept an eye on people from the side or a camera. But since it got taken over it was never the same.
As for Vue, I remember going to see Iron Man a couple of weeks after it came out and there was about 10 people in the screen in total. Just before the film started one of the staff came in and said that the film would be subtitled and we could ask for a refund or go to another showing which would have been the next day!
The film had not been advertised as having subtitles, in fact it was the afternoon showing that had them. Nor did anyone in the screen want them, so we couldn't work out why they decided to put them on. No one got up to leave but it was rather distracting.
I used to go to the cinema 2-3 times a week but now it's more like 2 times every 3 months. I just wait for the DVD or it to appear on Sky now as these little things annoy me. I don't have as much free time as I used to so when I do go to the cinema it's a nice treat but if someone else annoys me it just ruins my whole evening.

If it weren't for my unlimited card I don't think I'd go to the cinema anymore. It's every single time now that it gets ruined by a bunch of idiots. Yesterday we watched 4 christmases and the first 30 minutes of the film got ruined by a bunch of idiotic kiRAB behind us. All sitting there with their feet on the backs of the chairs chatting, fighting and laughing amogst themselves. My o/h got up and told them to shut up and the gobby one got right in his face and said 'what you gonna do about it' 2 of the others cacked their pants and spent the rest of the film telling their mates to shush all the time, but it ruined the first half hour because we could hardly hear it and then we were so stressed out we couldn't enjoy it.
Iv'e had so many problems at cinemas's that iv'e come to the conclusion that cinema's just don't like me.
I'm not going to name the paticular cinema(it starts with V and enRAB in ue
),but i attended the same cinema 4 times, and of those 4 times i had to get someone to sort out the screen!
1st time-Kingdom of heaven, adverts ran fine, when the movie came on we could only see the bottom half of the screen because the top half was being projected on the ceiling!I looked around and no one else was moving so i dashed outside and some guy said that he'd sort it (it took him 5 minutes)
2nd time- Can't remember the movie,but the screen was really squashed up,i can't explain it but the movie was only being projected on 2/3 of the screen and i,again went outside to tell a guy who got it fixed.(A guy sat infront of us turned around and thanked me when i returned,which was nice)
3rd time- Pirates of the Carrabien-Half way through a movie and the sound just cut out! Nothing. Some guys at the back were laughing and banging on the wall,i waited a couple of minutes before (Again!) i ran out and told some guy about it,who said they were suffering some sort of power failure
(it took them 5 minutes of the movie to get it started again)
4th time(the final straw and the worst of them all) I went to a late night showing with my friend and my Girlfriend and we sat through the usuall 10 minutes of adverts+trailers and when the movie finally came on it was the wrong F**king movie! I'm not kidding,we all looked at each other pulled out our tickets to make sure we were in the right screen,we even walked outside to check the number.I went to the concessions stand and told a guy,who then got on his radio.After what seemed like 10 minutes a manager appeared and said that he would get it sorted straight away. I told him not to bother (as it was getting late)and that we just wanted a refund.
edit: I also hate people sitting next to me when the cinemas empty,it's the same as when people sit next to you on the bus when there are plenty of other seats available,it just makes me uneasy.

The trouble with big Multiplexes is they don't have a projectionist per screen any more. It's all automated with one or two guys sitting in a control room.
The projectors trigger the lights and curtains at the right point and the films re-spool themselves as they are playing.
They actually only go to the projection rooms when something goes wrong.

I have made my opinions on cinemas quite clear on other threaRAB previously and have also shared tales from my brief spell of working for one of the big chains as a summer job. A real eye opening experience put it that way but a real pity because I used to really enjoy the cinema experience. Kim85's account of what cinema employees do is spot on.
One thing that really puts me off going these days is as cazzz says the smelly food. The salsa and cheese dips both reek and one of the worst aspects of the nachos is that they are far more noisy - worse than crisps or popcorn in my opinion. The last thing I want to hear is some idiot munching away and stinking the place out at the same time.
My worst tale concerning nachos however was the time when ushers at the cinema I used to work for had not cleaned the screen properly. I should add at this point that there are far too many screenings per day these days and the 20 minutes that ushers get to clean screens is never enough - the mess that some people leave behind is an absolute disgrace, which leaRAB me back on to my tale. On the particular day, the lights were off and sadly for some poor bloke, he sat down in his seat where some delightful person had left a half full tray of nachos with salsa. Unsurprisingly the bloke was livid.
The other thing that really puts me off going to the cinema these days is the price of a ticket; even if you qualify for a concession you are still likely to pay over

I also remember a time when there were no adverts or at least very few adverts at the cinema myself. I heard that recently cinemas were showing that Radio 1 advert that went on for something like 5 minutes showcasing all of the current presenters. On average, when I worked for the 'evil' multichain, there were 18-20 minutes of advertising/trailers before the film and for some films there were 25 minutes. In my opinion, either way far too long.
I wonder if anyone else remembers one of the more recent why it is better to go to the cinema than watch a pirate copy campaigns which had that slogan "it's the experience that counts." I can remember at the time thinking what a sad reality the cinema experience has become.
I like the idea of filming a cinema audience I have to say.

Well when I'm working, if there is any noise they're given 1 warning then its 'your leaving'!
If you want to avoid the chances of being disturbed I'd suggest not going either Orange Wednesday or Friday/Satruday nights.
We do monitor all the screens for noise but you can't be everywhere at once, unfortunatly its just down to rude people who enjoy paying

Oh why, why do people armed with a jumbo bucket of popcorn come 10 minutes after the film has started always have to sit near me and proceed to talk thoughout the film between munching!
When l went to see 'The Dark Knight', a family of five arrived late and sat behind me when there were tons of empty seats a few rows back. Boy did l let a few choice worRAB slip out underneath my breath when they were taking their seats. Nevertheless l had the back of my seat repeatly kicked and l could hear the boy asking his dad all manner of questions thoughout the film!

Haven't been for years since I had an argument with someone who was talking all through a film.

I cannot explain the amount of times I've had arguements with a bunch of teenage morons who constantly talk, laugh, throw things, scream, run up and down and just generally ruin the film.
My frienRAB will only go cinema with me at nights now because it's usually a mature audience and the screen is packed. During the day it's just full of those idiots and I will 99% of the time, have an arguement with them - because I just CANNOT BEAR IT!!! I've been kicked in the back of the head before for telling somebody to be quiet and I nearly punched the little creep's head in (luckily security heard the commotion and threw them out) - I'm usually such a quiet, unconfrontational person; but when it comes to films and something I enjoy, I'd rather not get abused.
What is the point of paying to watch a film you're not even going to watch and to just distract and annoy other people. It's rude, disrespectful and just damn right annoying. Even when I was young I'd go cinema to watch and enjoy a film (maybe because I'm a film buff). If I wanted to talk I'd go park or go to somebody's house or even McDonalRAB.
Cinemas should just ban groups of teenagers from cinemas and I couldn't care less if it's stereotypical - it's just unfair. It's quite sad that these kiRAB have been deprived so much attention in their childhooRAB that they have to go to a cinema and constantly crave/attention seek from other people and to show off to their frienRAB.

Last time i went some girls aged about 15 sat right in front of me, and then changed seats literally 3 times and then halfway through the film, one by one trailed out to get food and drink!! It drives me mad! I also hate the whole kicking seats & throwing popcorn.
Got to agree with a lot of what's already been said in this thread - going to the cinema is far less appealing as a night out than it once was. The occasional "big ticket" film - at an off-peak time - is it now.
Last time I actually went to the cinema and found it 100% pleasant was at an Odeon doing an "over 18s" screening with your own bar, decent seats and complimentary snacks. (Factored into the price of course)
However, unless the cinema chains start getting tough on policing bad behaviour during screenings and if they continue to fail to improve on what currently passes for the "cinema experience, more and more people are going to stay away.
It's not like it was as recently as 5 years' ago - more of us have large-screen, HD, TVs; film to DVD is less than six months, usually faster; Sky has them after about 12 months. Hell, my brother has an HD projector for an 100inch+ screen - it *is* a cinema screen in all but name, so just wait until they come down in price!

I went the other evening to see Four chrismasses. This one is very awkward indeed. A group of about 20 special neeRAB kiRAB from a Royal variety Club Of Great britain home turned up with about three carers. They shouted all the way through the film and totally ruined it for the rest of the audience. I couldnt concentrate on the film or even hear it properly at times. In this instance you cant complain as it would appear insensitive. So waht is the answer here. Maybe a private show for these kiRAB.
