I love christmas. Even when I can't buy presents. It stands for something greater than us. You all, like the rest of the planet, are caught up on what you can get, can't get, ect.....
Christmas is more than that. First, it stands for the changing of times, orignially called The Saturnalia by the romans, where they worshipped the heavenly mother of the gods, and the birth of a new year of agriculture for 12 days and nights. Secondly, in the more catholic perspective, it stands for the birth of Christ. Now, you can all go off about how much religion sucks, but if you FREAKING STUDY RELIGIOUS HISTORY....you would know that the birth of Christ changed many things, in fact the Christian (coming from the early protestant views) ideals of peace and freedom for persecution were reasons countries like America were founded. Third, it represents peace and goodwill, but nowadays we are so caught up on the "goods" that we forget the "peace" and the "will" (upon others, as in willing peace). Christams also has foundations in persian mythology, where they worshipped Mithras, one of my favorite gods, and this was during thier autumn season (I think) and therefore signified, yet again, the birth and rebirth of life, as in agriculture.
So why don't the larger portion of you stop bitching about how depressed you are because you don't want to get off your FUCKINGASSES and make things better?
And yes, I will admit, I am depressed and a little pissed off this christmas because there is no freaking way I can get my kids what they want. But you know what, our kids are good kids, and even our youngest said that he doesn't really want any presents if we can't afford them. Even our daughters, who have lived a fairly spoiled princess life, told us that they only wanted one present, but it was allright if we couldn't get anything as long as we are all together.
So fuck you guys. Shut up.
LIFE and FAMILY are what YOU make it. Nothing more, nothing less. Don't want to spend christmas with your family? Growing up catholic I spent every christmas serving the poor and hungry at St. Joseph's church. Why don't you lazy fucks go out there and do something for someone instead of complaining about how society and your family do nothing for you. What the fuck does the world owe YOU that YOU are so great it should strive to make YOUR life better? NOTHING. Not a god damn, mother-fucking thing. In fact, I would go so far as to say eveyrone here owes the world something, and you should get off your asses and do something. Here are some ideas:
1. Donate books, coats, clothes, to your local child services department. One book and one coat and one pair of socks can make a lot of difference to a kid with NOTHING.
2. Go to the local soup/food kitchen and ask what you can donate or volunteer to help out. They can use can foods and meat, I am sure.
3. Go to the salvation army and ask how you can help. Even one gift can make one child happy, and it doesn't have to be expensive. Go buy a 10 dollar barbie and give it to them.
Did I do any of this stuff? No, because I am broke. But we did go help at the church fundraiser this year, standing around for hours making jars of cookie mix to sell. That was boring. I also donated canned foods to my kid's school, who will be giving those to local families in need.
PS: CHRIST WAS NOT BORN ON CHRISTMAS. HE WAS NOT EVEN A WINTER BABY.
