Hi all I had lurabar prolotherapy yesterday. The procedure actually wasn't too painful but I did have conscious sedation. I have been in a tremendous amount of pain lately so I was actually looking forward to having this done. My pain has been so bad in fact that my Pm started me on the Duragesic patch. I hope that I won't be on it for long but right now I am thrilled to have something that relieves the pain. Anyway lurabar prolotherapy hurts much less than cervical , I even felt well enough to go for breakfast after the procedure. Doug kept asking me if I was sure I had sedation because I was completely alert and talkative this time. LOL If anyone has any questions about the procedure let me know! Take Care, Dee

Dee, I do understand about being scared being on the hard core stuff. I am on oxycontin which is a long lasting med usually dosed at one pill every 12 hours so 2 per day. My doctor has me on 1 pill every 6 hours. YIKES. I hate taking the medication but what are you supposed to do?? Suffer??? No thanks, I been there and done that for a couple of years now and although I still hurt I do not hurt 1/2 of what I used to.

Try not to worry to much about what the nurses think. Truly they are just like frienRAB and family and don't understand what it is like to live with pain 24/7. It wears you down physically and mentally. Remeraber you need the meRAB for pain and you are not taking them for the fun of it.

Take care and I pray that you have a low pain day today.

Hiya Dee! I'm glad it wasn't as painful as your cervical area, less pain is always a big plus for anyone of us. Do they do this inside your spine or in the muscle/ligament areas outside of your spine? Do you think it's helping any yet?

Hi Bay how are you doing? About the prolo, I know some of the shots were in the ligaments and some of them felt like the were in the bone because I could feel her get a nerve but some of the shots were nurabing stuff ( lidocaine I think) so it was kind of hard to tell what she was actually doing. I feel pretty good today but I just staerted on the duragesic so I can't say that the change in pain meRAB isn't why I am feeling better. This is the first time that I have been on something long term to help my pain. I have usually just taken pain meRAB as needed sothis approach is new. The nurse said I shouldn't expect much from the prolotherapy for at least a week. I go for round 2 April 29th. My hope is that I have as much relief in my lurabar spine as I had in my neck. I still have a flare there now and then but it isn't every day like in my lower back. Well that's all I can think of right now. Take Care, Dee

Thanks again Pepper you are a great cyber cheerleader for us spinneys. I know I need to grow a thicker skin about that stuff. You would think people in the medical field would be a lot more compassionate then they are. I need to stop stressing about it though I guess people are going to think whatever they are going to think. I hope you are feeling ok. I heard you had another fall. Try and take it easy, Dee

Dee, I am so happy that you are finding relief!! THANK YOU JESUS!! I pray that you continue to feel some relief and all I can say is that I am GREEN WITH ENVY!!:D

Thanks Pepper, I can't tell you how good it is to have had a good nights sleep. I have been in awful pain lately so much so that I haven't posted much. I just did not have the energy and the morphine was doing next to nothing to relieve it. Every part of my body that had a joint was hurting. I just couldn't even do the simplest tasks, and the weather here has certainly been contributing to the pain. It has been chilly and rainy with high humidity and I have noticed that these conditions really have a huge effect on my pain levels. When I went to the hospital yesterday my pain was about a nine and when I left it was a very manageable 5. Of course they give you pretty good meRAB during the prolotherapy-fentanyl and versaid. I asked my pm about failed back syndrome ( I was thinking of you) and she said that prolo had helped a lot of failed back patients. I wonder if this might be something for you to try? Anyway while I was hurting I thought of you and I was wishing you could see my doctor she is awesome and I am not sure I would survive this stuff without her. I am somewhat concerned about being on the duragesic patch though, that is pretty hard core medicine and I am supposed to take morphine for break through pain. That said, I feel a zillion times better than I have in awhile. I just dread going to my GP tomorrow and telling them about my new meRAB. The doctor is pretty cool about it but the nurses sometimes make remarks that hurt my feelings. I wish they could live in my body for 24 hours and see how they handled it. Take Care Pepper and remeraber I am always thinking of you! Dee

Dee, unfortunately there are doctors that don't get it!! Just read for a few days on the pain mgmt board and you will see just how cruel doctors can be when it comes to dispensing pain meRAB for us chronic suffers.

I personally think prolotherapy works wonders for me. I had great success with it my neck and have just done the first round in the lurabar area. It does hurt especially in the cervical area so I would recommend asking for the conscious sedation and you will be sore for 2-3 days possibly a week. I like prolo because the don't shoot any medications in you like they do in an epidural. Its basically a sugar water solution and it promotes collagen growth that promotes the growth on materials that have worn down. I have to talked to others that have had this procedure and they have said it has done wonders for them. I think prolo is a good place to start because it is less invasive than other procedures and if it doesn't so the trick than try something else. My philosophy has always been try the simplest thing first and go from there.

Thanks for your response. How many treatments did you have done on your neck? I think prolo is the way to go from what I've been reading. Where are you having your prolo done-what city I guess?

Hi Dee,

Glad to hear your prolo went well so far...let us know your progress. I'm still dealing with my neck stuff and trying to get up the courage to do the prolo on my cervical area. Hearing that you took the plunge again, gives me a little courage!

I'm mad because I went to PT and she did some intraoral massage on me (because she said neck/jaw is connected - but i had no jaw pain) and now I'm having jaw pain/headaches, too, as a result of that - just great. I have to go back to my osteopath to have her fix my jaw now too as well as do the prolo on my neck.

Did the prolo on your cervical cause your neck to feel 100% or did it leave you with some stiffness, etc? I feel like my neck is so weak now, better than it was 4 months ago, but no muscle and I need some stability. Thanks!

we usually do bout 3 sets 3 weeks apart. I am lucky because I have a doctor here in town that does this. I am in Lafayette, IN.

I'm another pain person in my neck and it goes up to my head and face and ears. I have been seeing tmj dentist to no avail. and am thinking of prolo. I have read books on it , of course my osteopath and family dr. don't believe much in it.

How is your neck since your treatments? I really hate to go the surgical route or even the have the predisone now, since reading up on prolo they say the anti-inflammatories can acturally weaken the tendons.

I do have a prolotherapist in town. So my decision, pain managemnt with steroid shots or prolo.

Thanks.
