I sounds that way to me. To me FAFSA is a joke. If you are unmarried, have a child and live in government assisted housing and receive food stamps then you are qualified. Forget the people who work 2 jobs and sometimes up to 4 just trying to pay for their child’s education. They did not ask us what our outgoing bills for the month were or about the $30.00 we have left over at the end of each month to buy groceries. We have been told to take out a loan for our son (Yes, that is what I want is the day he graduates to already be in debt). We thought we had done everything right, spaced our kids out 5 years apart to be able to afford daycare and pay for college when it came, purchased savings bonds (which have also turned out to be a joke) saved, etc and he is just now a freshman and will be a sophomore and transferring to Texas A&M at College station the fall with no means of use paying for it. I have worked all of my life and will continue to do so but it frustrates me that my taxes that they hold out of every check somehow seem to make its way to the FAFSA but my child gets nothing. He is going to get a double major in engineering but do you think that the 1 scholarship that the oil company’s give out each year he got? NO!. He is very smart, before entering college he took the test and bypassed several college classes. All this child wants is an excellent education and I may have to tell him it will take years for him to get it instead of the 3 years that he would like. It really burns me up when people who have lots of money buy the 4th house out of the country, people brag that they have no idea how much money they have because it is not important and we sit here trying to come up with 19,000. Just makes me sick!
