Okay, this is really weird to write about, but today I was riding my bike on my way to school, I forgot to get into the left turn lane in an intersection, tried to cut across, and as I did, a car slammed into the back of my bike, it went under the car, and i went onto the ground, landing on my knee. As soon as I realized I wasn't injured, I told the hysterical driver I was fine, grabbed my bike from under the car, and dragged it off the street and two blocks away.
When I was two blocks away, I realized that although I was fine, my bike was terrible, the handlebars were all out of alignment with the wheel, the real brake was torn open, but most of all my back wheel was all bent. I sort of dragged/rode it the remaining few blocks to school, locked it on the bike rack, and after school walked home.
I told my parents I just left it at a friends house overnight, and would pick it up tomorrow.
But my questions are, should I tell my parents? I am perfectly fine, the car only hit me at about 10 mph, and I landed on my knee, so I just have the bruise. Plus I sort of let my bike take most of the blow, which I now realized wasn't that smart.
And should I try to find the driver and maybe go to the police, or have her pay for the damage? Though this would involve me telling my parents SOMETHING, and it was sort of my fault (trying to cut across the intersection), and I COULD pay for it. I did some research, a new bike wheel is $40-60, and the bike shop could install one for $10-12.
Please tell me!!!!! I'm freaking out!!
