I was doing a favor for a family member to drive his truck cause he didn't have a license and I got an infraction for doing a left turn on a yellow light the brakes were bad. I couldn't stop so I though of spirit of the law a cop stops me gives me a ticket for that and also no insurance.I can't afford a lawyer any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.
the ticket is about $1200
will it stay in my driving records permanately

You don't need an attorney. When you go to court ask the judge if you can get the fine reduced by attending traffic school/and or community service.

The court doesn't care whether you were doing someone a favor or any of the other circumstances you described. You were driving a vehicle without insurance, bad brakes, and didn't yield to the light, your fault.

If the fine can't be reduced, ask the court for a payment schedule and pay it off in installments.

Edit: How many 'points' are attached to your driving record and how long the infraction will show on your record depends on the laws/guidelines in your state, you can find out through your DMV. However, it will not show permanently.
