I have contacts, if i join the army/ national guard, would i have to get glasses or laser surgery?

also, i was thinking about being a tank operator or Artilleryman, if that changes anything

Depending on your MOS, once deployed you may be required to wear glasses instead of contacts.

Also - the Army will pay for lasik eye surgery if you want it. Just some places have long wait list.

You are given 'birth control' glasses to wear during basic training, but afterward you can wear what you want, and can definitely wear contacts. They are called birth control glasses because they are particularly unstylish and thus will repel any possible mates.

Note, never wear contact lenses when going through a gas chamber or during any other exercise that uses tear gas. It will damage your eyes.

When you go through basic you will get glasses, ugly glasses nicknamed Birth Control Glasses (BCGs) Anytime you are in the field, deployed, or doing certain kinds of training you must wear glasses. After basic you can order decent looking glasses from your military optometrist to wear when you must or continue to wear BCGs.

Other than those times you are able to wear contacts if you want.
