Today was the first time I took a good look at Walmart's fresh meat.
They carry two different types of beef, USDA Choice and UNgraded.
Now I know where to buy beef steaks. I bought a half an eyeround too,
that's in the freezer. They had very nice looking center cut pork
chops too, next time. I'm planning on cooking these steaks for dinner
on Thursday, tomorrow I'll be too busy having a wisdom tooth
extracted... oy... it's good I got a big pair! LOL

The nearest Sam's Club is about 40 miles from here, I go there once
maybe twice a year. I doubt I'll get up early enough to participate
in that mark down, but then I don't stock up on meat. I mostly stock
up on non-perishables, typically non-food items... I buy mostly paper
goods, cleaning products, toiletries, certain canned goods by the
case, snack foods, and I usually buy a few cheeses. I look around but
many of their items that I would use are in too large a size for me...
even their meats are cut a bit large or too many per package for me.
And a lot of their produce is bulk packed, again too large size packs
for me... I can't use six heads of lettuce before it rots... last time
they had a good price on limes but I couldn't use but half that bag of
24 before they spoiled, and the critters won't eat citrus... sometimes
they have a good buy on those super sweet jumbo carrots from Canada,
five pound bags for $3, those I can buy like a dozen bags, they keep
well, and the deer love them. And I can't use mayo in the gallon
size, it would last me two years and take up too much fridge space...
I already figured out that I'd only save maybe 40? over buying four 1
quart jars at Walmart. Often those large sizes offer no real savings,
often they actually cost more... and if it spoils before you finish
half than it's a total loss. The only reason I go to Sam's club at
all is that I have two neighbors I go with, we take turns car pooling,
it's a pleasant day out.

I'm not Dimitri but I think it's safe to say: about to reach expiration
date.

I've got a regional supermarket chain I go to for close-to-expire
meat. They sticker everything they want to move with a yellow sticker
and the price is then about one-third off. It's always good looking
meat. I particularly look for skirt steak. I've just got to get to
the store by 9 a.m. or all the stickered stuff is gone.

As an aside, some of my recipes from my mom to a new bride include the
directions to buy produce, particularly fruit, late on Saturday as the
grocery stores are closed on Sunday and they want to move everything
out that might spoil ;o}
