What is going on with the 1998-2001 Ford Explorer V6 engine SOHC "only"? Many people are saying that they are not that good ! The engine lose power most of the time. They also say the the timing belt tensioner break alot and so the head gasket are so cheap made of plastic and so the ball joints control arm! Is this True? Because I was thinking buying one, witch one is better a 1998-2000 Dodge Durango or Ford Explorer?

We have a 1998 durango and its worked for 11 years with over 200k on it. I'd get the 200 one. It's a little more fuel efficient i think in the long run. Coincidentally, we're getting a new one today of the 2008 model.

I bought a 1999 Explorer new. Replaced the transmission at 14,000 miles, again at 20,000, again at 56,000. Replaced the starter twice. Had a head gasket blow and had to replace the ignition coil pack once all before I got rid of it with 64,420 miles on it. I hated that car so much, it sat in my back yard for a few years. A friend of mine has it now and it still has less than 70,000 on it and it is 10 years old. He has replaced the O2 sensors and cats. It is the SOHC V6. STAY AWAY!

Dodge Durango all the way, the Ford exploder is no good unless you get a warranty.
