I get up at 5:30 to get a 45min exercise. What should i eat before it?

I don't want a full breakfast just something that will give me enough energy. I find that getting out of bed and straight into exercise is a bad idea because i haven't got enough energy.
Also, juts wondering if wholegrain is a complex carbohydrate and would a whole grain cereal be a good idea
