I get really sharp pains in my shoulder and it is always popping and

grinding what could be the cause of this? It has been like this as long as I can remember but in the last 3 year it has been getting worse. I am 15 and it has become unbearable. I would like to know what could be the problem. Should I get it checked out? Could it require surgery?
