I even stopped riding for seven days and the burn remained. It burns especially when I stretch. It's pretty severe. Why does the burn linger for so long? How can I stop it?

The pain is coming from your muscles. You must have pushed yourself pretty hard for it still to be sore a week later. As you ride more your legs will become stronger and they will be able to cope with exercise.

There are many ways to stop the pain. Next time don't ride as fast and take it easier until you become stronger. Try going a shorter distance again until you are stronger and then increase the distance later. After you exercise it is very important to "warm/cool" down.

After you have finished your ride try going on a short trip maybe 200/300m slowly so you legs can gradually relax. Also do plenty of stretching before the cycle and at this point as your legs wont be as sore or stiff. This will lessen the pain that your are now feeling for many days.

I am a serious bike rider so i have had sore legs and doing all of this has helped me.

I'm guessing it is in your calves. Maybe quads. Either way it could be you're really out of shape (which I highly doubt lol), make sure you warm up properly by biking slowly and stretching a little after before really bike riding. Also make sure the seat is high enough so you use a combination of your quads and calf muscles. After your done bike riding continue to strecth like you do. Drink plenty of water before and after. If it continues to burn you may have torn a muscle or done some type of damage in which you should see a doctor. Good Luck
