I found an old Ford Fairlane 500. How much should I pay for it?

My fiance' and I have been looking around for a project, and we found this older 60s model For Fairlane. It has very little surface rust. The junkyard owner says it has rust underneath of it. It needs some mechanical work done under the hood- especially on the carburetor. It needs only a little interior work. He is asking 900. Could I get him down to 600? Our limit is 700.
It's a four door V8 Standard

For a valid answer on estimated value, you really need to provide more information - coupe? V-8 or 6? Auto or std?
I recommend that you check the undercarriage very carefully - this is a unit body car and metal work can get real expensive, real quick.
If everything checks out - it'll be a great car for a project and to cruise around in. Good luck.

You don't say what year or model (2 door/4 door) it is or what engine. They were a unibody type car and if it has severe rust problems it may exceed the value of the car to properly repair it. I would look it over really well and then decide what to do. As far as an offer, I expect he probably paid about $100 for it so I would offer $400 at most if it is not too rusty.
