Well as my title was I forgot to feed my fish for a day and other fish gained up on him and ate him. I had 9 neon tetra, but now i have 8. *sigh. I usually take good care of those neon tetra, i mean, they are my fish and stuff right. But i just went into highschool. first year. and well. wow. i have soo much homework. right when i come home its homework homework homework. Yesterday, i had a project and well i slept over at my friends house... and yah know what happend... I forgot to feed my fish and my mom didnt feed it either. When i went home from school and fed it, i looked inside the tank and BAM! a fish laying dead on the gravel in side the fishtank. The neon tetra's stomach was like... riped up. i dont know how many days its been there but im guessing 2days. Well now im really scared of my fish. and then i saw most of those neon tetra's stomach . which is like.. the bottom i guess. is really bulged up and stuff. would it be because they ate the bones, or maybe because that fish gave those other fish that ate it a sickness. Please help me answer. 10 for the best answer

What other fish are in your tank? It didnt just die because you didnt feed it, it died beause it either was bullied, eaten by a bigger fish, water parameters are right (tetras arent hardy fish) or any numbers of reasons. Im guessing it was bullied by another fish, or couldnt withstand the ammonia or nitrite levels, died, then the rest of the fish began picking at his dead body. Test the water, if ammonia and nitrites arent at 0ppm you're running a risk of the rest of your tetras dying. What oter fish are there in your tank?

I don't think the other fish ganged up on the other. Neon fish aren't aggressive but they like other fish may feed on dead fish. Neon fish are especially vulnerable to diseases and have short life spans. They can be tricky to keep as pets too as they are very sensitive to changes in the water. Most likely your fish died of an illness or age. I wouldn't worry about it. Most fish don't die if you don't feed them for a day either. I suggest you talk to your local fish store and gain some info on the types of fish out there and perhaps get some more hardy ones. But be aware fish die and as long as you have been feeding them, keeping the tank clean you have nothing to feel bad again. Its nature. But when you notice that fish are sick you should always check the hp and probably give the tank a good cleaning.

fish can go a day without eating. It's only one day. What I think had happened something, a disease got into your tank and it's not your fault Ok. So don't beat yourself up about it

Take Care

I understand that you would be scared of them. It's a little creepy.

I'm thinking what happened, because little neon fish are so peaceful, that the poor guy died and the others just kept picking at him.

Don't forget, they've got a short attention span, maybe they just forgot that he was their tank mate.
