I finally watched Twilight

I agree with the OP. Due to all of the hype and the 'OMGisn'tit totallythebestthingevertohavehappenedeverintheworld?' from people I know (including a 22 year old who I usually agree completely with) I decided to give it a go. I read the books over 4 days, then watched the film.

I nearly died with the ridiculous levels of teen angst and predictable plots. The only thing I can say that looks half decent in the new film is the way the werewolves are 'animated' as they go from human-wolf.

Not for me, I'm afraid. The portrayal of vampires as shiny disco balls with emo-itis is really rather depressing. =(

The only thing good about Twilight is that it spawned a great youtube video mashup, where a creepy Edward tries hitting on a severely creeped-out Buffy.

It really sums up what a stalkerish weirdo that Edward-character is and if you don't cheer when Buffy throws him out a window and then stakes his sparkly arse, there must be something wrong with you!

I too had heard "Good things" said about the movie. So therefore gave it a go. But when watching the film, it became apparent that the film was all about the romance, with Vampires as a minor subplot. I didn't enjoy the film. But yet i'm attracted to the setting of the film. I just wish it had more depth and a higher certificate rating.

There must be something wrong with me because I utterly despise Buffy. Now Blade is another thing. Seeing Wesley Snipes carve Edward Cullen up with his kaitana would be most interesting.

Couldn't agree more. The books are nonsensical garbage so it's no wonder the films are rubbish. A vampire that sparkles - that says more than enough I think.

I thought the books were awful - I can't stand purple prose and it had a very odd message which made my inner feminist angry. But I enjoyed the movie. For one thing, I hated the book so I had very low expectations. Also I'm a big fan of the lead actor, Robert Pattinson. He plays Edward, and I think he interpreted the character well. In interviews he said that Edward "had issues" reminded him of "a manic depressive who hate himself" and that Bella "could use a restraining order." So it seems he meant for Edward to be a creep but all the teenage girls want tothink of him as a romantic hero.

As for the rest of the film, I thought the scenery was gorgeous but there should have less helicopter shots and more character development. I thought Kristen Stewart was awful as Bella, but I've heard she's a talented actress so it might havve jsut been the result of playing such a flat character. And I don't count it as a vampire film at all. Vampires are bad ass, drink blood and don't sparkle. But despite all of that, I still enjoyed it and I'm definitely going to go see New Moon when it comes out.
