I work in this restaurant with this girl, Brit. We started the same day, 3 months ago. I wasn't expecting someone to be promoted before the start of next year. All my co-workers are African-American. However, my supervisor is Caucasian.

I haven't talked about becoming permanent at the restaurant. I didn't think it was an issue yet. I do more work than her daily. I handle my daily duties and I train new people when necessary. My work doesn't go unnoticed, but I feel disrespected.

Brit has been in the back, working with the supervisor the last few work days and I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Brit doesn't do nearly as much work as I do. She is a little more outgoing than me though.

I've been audited, (till - short / over) but she has to. She has been on cashier more times than I have, though. I'm new to the workforce, and I believe she is as well. How do I handle this?
How do promotions usually work in the food-service industry. Does the empoloyee or the manager usually bring the subject up? If you’re a manager or supervisor, how do you usually tell who should be promoted?

My supervisor has complemented me many times at work though. Today, because of all the work I did, she gave me an hour, 5 minute long break, while everyone else got 45 minutes.

My supervisor has been having me start working at an earlier time each day though and leads, like Brit, are required to work from before the restaurant opens till after it closes. I wonder if they’re going to promote me?

How can I become even more “needed” at work. I really want this.
Fyi. – Brit and I have been good friends since we first started. She doesn’t even give me orders. We both know about the same amount when it comes to opening, closing, and the daily maintenance, etc. She is a hard worker, but ever since she’s been talking to the supervisor, she hasn’t been doing as much. I don’t know what they’ve been talking about…

Advice of any kind is appreciated! Sorry for rambling..
