I downloaded microsoft office trial and it wont let me edit anything?

hi

i just downloaded microsoft and opened up a document i had saved from my usb, it opened it fine, but when i tried to edit it, at the bottom left it said, ''The modification is not allowed because the selection is blocked''. what can i do so i can edit it :)
