I don't understand what the big deal is about the Twilight series.?

I've read the books, and I am excited about the new one coming out, but I don't understand why everyone is going crazy over them.
It's not like they're a greatly written, they're well written but not great.
I can name a million books like them, and a million books better.
Are people just looking for the next Harry Potter?
 
I happen to take the stance that it's hype built up by marketing success and teenage hysteria. But then again, I haven't read all the way through (haven't been able to get past a few pages). I'll give it a full try and get back to you.

But for now, yes I think it is a readership based on not much substance.
