I don't know what to do

Okay, I'm almost positive countless other people have this problem, but I don't know where or how to solve it. I don't know what I want to do with my life. Right now I'm enlisted in the Army, but I really don't see myself doing this for 20-30 years, though it'd be a nice life I suppose.

I want to do something I can enjoy, but I don't know what that'd be. I always have ideas of what I want to do, but I always doubt myself and question whether I'd be miserable doing that or not.

So yeah, how do I discover myself? How do I find out what's right for me so I don't have to be miserable with life?
 
What made me join the Army? I was a high school drop out stoner with a GED.

Sorry, that was a bad joke. I joined the Army because I didn't think I had any other choices. Either way, I have about three and a half more years to decide on what to do when I get out.
 
The average person changes careers somewhere around 6 times in their life.

You can do what I've been doing: jump from career to career, remembering what you like about each job. With each job you get closer to realizing what it is you want, and if you're good about it you're gaining enough diverse job experience you can get higher and higher wages along the way.

It's a win-win.
 
Try to find a way to take the Discover test. It's a career test that was made by the makers of the ACT is is damned good.

Any career test should help you. Also, be comfortable with the fact that most individuals don't actually "know" what they want until about age 25.

What are your strengths and weaknesses? Do you work better with people or alone? Do you enjoy labor? Do you prefer to be a leader or a teammate? Do you do well in a specific subject? How do you perform under stress?

Answer these questions and you will find yourself on the right track, but be honest with yourself. Don't answer what you want, but what you are. Answering for your ideal self will only lead to frustration and even regression instead of progression.
 
go and live in a Budhest monestary for a few years its a rough life all that farming to survive the winters and stuff but i know a guy I can talk to who spent a few years at one i'll see if he can hook you up if you want.

(note it is an old senile dude that may or may not be bullshitting me )

Dude, we don't know. Who knows what you are going to be doing for the rest of your life? Hell the only people that have their lives set out for them are royalty, and even then its a crap shoot.

All you can do is live in today and love yourself and those around you.

The rest works itself out on its own.
 
I've been welding at the same shop for the last four years, since I was 16. I enjoy it, love it and it's never boring. Always something new, it just depends on what you feel like doing. If you feel like building computers do it, don't tell yourself you can't make a career out of something you enjoy.
