I don't know how to act at dances? Plz answer!?

I feel like I know how to dance it's just everyone is like grinding and I dont know how to get a girl to dance with haha . I'm a freshman in college btw, are you supposed to just go dance by yourself and hope a girl starts dancing with you?? Or just ask a girl you dont know to dance or what? Cuz I dont want to dance with any of the girls I know.
