Tom Lehner in a song says that "people have begun to feel like a Christian scientist with appendicitis".

I'm afraid I don't get it.
Hopefully someone here can explain?

A I think it is 'Lehrer'
B. people think when they have appendicitis they have to see a doctor, and 'christian scientists' don't believe in seeing a doctor, and so might well die of appendicitis.
C. Dr. Shultze says that with proper care you can get over it with proper care, and that in 20 years he has counseled hundreds of cases, and NONE have been operated on, but one he counseled by phone and the woman would not follow his instructions.
