I'm not speaking of technicalities here, I know nothing of that. What I mean is that MMA is against everything sports stand for.
No matter what organization, be it UFC/Affliction/w.e, I think when your goal is to hurt your opponent and knock him out, even if most wins are via submission it doesn't come without punches and kicks, I think that's as far away from sport spirit as we can get.
When it's standard procedure to trash talk your opponent and explain to the camera how you're gonna wipe the floor with him, I think it's insulting to call mma/boxing/etc.. a sport.
Can you imagine a UFC fighter, for example, being banned from the next event over ridiculing his opponent on camera? HELL NO. Look at soccer/basketball/etc.. , you can get FINED/SUSPENDED for exhibiting a lack of sportsmanship. Now THATS what I call a sport.
What do you call it then? Just plain fighting.
What's your opinion on this? And don't answer with "not all the fighters talk trash on camera" because although that's true, you're ignoring the PRIME REASON why I don't consider it a sport; the fact that part of the competition is HURTING your opponent, which is NOT what sports stand for.
Wrestling (not pro) is another matter, there's no hitting.
