I Didn't Make It...

This really, really fucking sucks.

I had a class yesterday at around noon, so I decided to leave my house at 11:50 (I live pretty close to my college).

Driving to class, I stopped at a gas station to fill up my tank and found myself face to face with one of the worst fucking things a human being ever has to see. I saw a dog, limping slightly from his front left leg, going up to people and sniffing / licking them / barking at them weakly ; I'm guessing in hopes of getting something out of it (like a piece of fucking bread).

I picked up the dog to take it inside the gas station with me, so I could buy something for it to munch on. Right when I picked it up, however, I noticed that it whimpered slightly at my touch, and upon further inspection, I noticed it wasn't just his left leg that was fucked up, it was the entire left side of his body, leading all the way down to his ribcage. This dog had been hit by a fucking car.

Forgetting completely about the noon class, I carefully placed it in the backseat of my car, where it sort of drooped down and rested its head on the side. I went inside and bought a beef jerky and a bottle of water. The water I gave to him by cupping it in my hands while it lapped it up.

When I placed the beef stick in front of him, he proceeded to rip that thing apart greedily. It made me feel like shit to think that this dog had probably not eaten in days.

I got in my car, and U-turned, heading back in the direction of my house, where nearby is a local vet. The dog fell asleep in the backseat during the car ride, with the entire stick of beef jerky inside his stomach and half a bottle of Zephyrhills downed.

When I got out at the vet, I went over to his side, opened the door, and patted him to wake him up. When that didn't work, I shook him a little bit, and kept saying, "hey, hey, psst".

The fucking thing wasn't asleep. He wasn't fucking asleep at all.
That dog fucking died in my car. I drove way too fucking slow, way too fucking gently.

Fuck whoever hit that dog with their car. I hope right after they hit it, their wheel popped and they violently crashed into a tree.
If you have what it takes to nail a dog with your dumb ass driving, at least get out of the car and see if it's still breathing, you dickfuck. And if it's hurt, take responsibility for it. It's your fault, you horrible piece of shit.

Sorry that you had to see it happen, let alone it happen with you involved. But you've got to understand, there are stupid ass people that are out there doing this, even on purpose. Fuck whoever did it. And don't blame yourself for not getting it to the vet in time, by the sounds of it, the dog probably wouldn't have lasted there anyways.

Wow, that's horrible Refresh.

At least you cared enough to help the poor little guy. Maybe that's all he wanted before he took is final sleep.

You shouldn't be pissed about a car hitting it. I mean, the dog could have been dumb enough to run out in front of a car mayhaps?

Instead, you should pat yourself on the back for giving the dog some compassion before his demise.

Good for you man.

You know, he at least didn't die alone. Dogs grow up being taught that humans are their friends. They trust us implicitly and love us unconditionally. And in the end, you showed him that he was right. He didn't die hungry and alone. He was looking for help, for that one person that would make his life OK. When he found it he was able to let go.

Good on you.

And don't worry about how fast or slow you drove man. That old guy was looking for a safe place to die. A place where it would matter, he wouldn't be forgotten and a place where he was safe. Once he found that it didn't matter how fast you got him to the vet he was letting go anyway.

Ohhh..that is so sad. I agree with what everyone else said. The dog wasn't alone, you gave him some comfort when no one else did. Be proud of yourself, you did the right thing.

This made me cry. Uber's post really made me cry.

I'm with you, Refresh, on being angry at whomever the FUCK would hit an animal and just drive off. The fucking shame! These type of people shouldn't even be alive, if you ask me. To think that the dog probably would have lived, had that person decided to take it to the vet immediately. Seems like a short fucking drive, from your post.

Like most of the people have said, though: He died, knowing that someone cared enough about him, to help. Sigh.

What really fucked with my head is the satisfaction I got from seeing him "asleep" in the backseat, when I turned around at a red light, to check up on him. He was so fucking peaceful.

I hope, if there's a Heaven, that it made it to the doggy area.

All animals go to a safe place to die, so really you did a good thing, whether or not you got him to the vet in time. I mean that would of been the ideal, but you got him to safety and looked after him for the last time. Good for you.

I'm sure he would of thanked you if he could.

Wow. That's fucking sad.
I would of cried. Not even gonna lie. I love animals. To the point that if my dog does something wrong and I have to spank her for it, I feel bad.

Good job for helping the poor guy.

;835513']Poor fella.

Oh well. There's a heaven for dogs, ya know. I think they deserve it.

And, despite anything else- [HOSTILE] cries when he sees a puppy get hurt.

But I laugh when people get smacked with cars.
