I didn't know about this, drilling in Gulf

I'm not the one kneeling down and sucking the dick of a bunch of Saudi Kings and Princes.

BTW, how about addressing the issue I raise?

So you can sidestep his response and use it to somehow say Obama is the great Satan? meh.

819 manned. 6600 rigs total. 33 rigs is a drop in a bucket. Way to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Transportation is the 2nd largest cause of pollution. And you can argue if it wasn't for transportation, we wouldn't be drilling for oil

Why don't you want guns banned? They've certainly caused more death and destruction than this oil spill. What is your stance on nuclear weapons?

There is about 700 in the Gulf, Mexican and US. We shut down 33 and suspended all exploration for at least six months. That's a lot of jobs and a lot of people affected. The region is already going to be hurt by the fishing industry hit and adding this on top is only going to make it worse. Is there a legitimate reason to shut down those rigs or is it simply a knee jerk reaction to make it look like you are doing something? Was there even a hint of consideration that this move might negatively affect people and the local economy? Did you actually read the article?

Great Satan? No.

Totally clueless and over his head -OR- has an agenda that is counter to most Americans? Yes.

Not to mention we are now in hurricane season, which every time a major storm comes through (which is several times a season), HUNDREDS of those platforms are shut down.

well, we need to have a serious conversation in this country about what is an acceptable level of regulation.

for years, the regulators that have been in place have been way too friendly to business-- in this industry, and also in the news, the financial industry. for years, the pendulum has swung against regulation. all along, I maintained it was a mistake. people called me a dinosaur liberal etc. I stuck to my guns.

you need people who are tough. But you also need to keep tabs on these firms too. the regulators need more resources too, I think that much is clear.

and there needs to be real consequences. something to make a firm think twice about using a casing that a chief engineer for BP advised against.

but the reality is, what can the government do to prevent a firm from making a reckless decision? stop the drill? show up with the atf and shut down the securities trading division?

with companies being seemingly unable to police themselves, we need to rethink the concept of a LLC, or accept more government adult supervision.

pisses me off.

I'd rather have a few closed down TEMPORARILY and regulated than have another accident like this from happening.

To the bus arguement. If everytime a bus crashed and effected THOUSANDs of people and businesses YES all Buses should be suspened.

Dont be pussy hurt just becuase a few rigs are closed down due to BP's neglegence.

Seriously, 33 rigs? How many were left operating? Several hundred/thousand? Another stupid fucking thread full of exaggeration and half-truth.
