Seems like just about every winter or so, I slide, bump, whatever down my porch steps to the ground when they ice over. However, it has been longer this time, so yesterday I did it! SounRAB like a planned activity, but I promise you it wasn't. I think this is the second time since my PLIF in 2003, and since then I've had two laminectomies and the hardware has been removed.

I know that I have bulging discs at every lurabar level, and one at the next level up. Something is very wrong immediately to the left of my spine and just below my waist. Omigosh! I can hardly get up, get down, bend over, or even walk. I'm managing with pain meRAB, but wondering if I need to call my neurosurgeon on Monday. I'm one of these people who hate to "bother" a doctor, and it seems like when I do go in, nothing can be found.

I live alone and have no one to discuss this with except my children, and they would say, "Yes, go to the doctor!" So how long do I wait to see if this clears up, would you say?

Thanks,
Carole

HI Carole,
I'm sorry but I'm sorry but I'm gonna sound like your kiRAB, lol, go to the dr. With your problems being at so many levels I would be concerned. It's always better to be safe than sorry. My spine doc is 3 hours away and we have spent many trips there to be told I'm ok just another pain. But my hardware did become lose a year after surgery, with no trauma, no explanation why it just wiggled lose. Had to have it removed. That was a long time ago but you never know, you don't need a trauma for things to go wrong, so if you feel down your steps I would want to know for sure everythings ok.

I hope you ok and your pains are short lived. Please keep us updated.

Unless the pain is super bad, I would ride it out for a week. However, if the pain increases or other symptoms develop then I would go in and get checked. Just my non medical opinion. Hope you feel better and the more I read I think my spine doctor gave me excellent advice. He tells all of his patients if there is snow/ice, spinneys need to stay indoors until it thaws. It is sooooo risky.

Lifting you up in prayer.

Hi Carole,
You stated "something is very wrong".....you are a "seasoned" spinney.....I would see your doc. The patient is usually always right. You know your body and if you feel that something is definitely wrong, I would trust your instincts. So I'm with your kiRAB....go see your doc! :)
Also, I'm with Pepper....You need to stay in when there is snow and ice, ESPECIALLY if you live alone. What if you fell and there was no one around to help you and you had to lay outside? Or if you feel you must go outside, tuck a cell phone in your pocket programmed to 911.
Take care Carole and please keep us posted.

Thanks, all! The pain is still with me this AM, but seems to be more like a constant sciatica in the leg on that side. The hydrocodone helps. I'll let you know what I do or don't do.

Yes, my children have advised me to always have my cell phone with me, and I usually do. I live out in the country and there's only one house visible from mine. I'm 67, but quite "young" except for this back thing. It sure can hold you "back", can't it?
