I decided on a 360 over a PS3... Questions.

I can almost guarantee that future 360 games will require the HD-DVD add on. Maybe not all of them, but definately the more graphically intensive ones will. There is no way that MS can continue to put games on regular DVD's and still be competitive. So from that standpoint the HD-DVD add on is not really optional.
 
i agree. they will be stock equipment eventually, only because of the vast potential of high density discs. Just think as far as game potential, 8gb for the standard game DVD disc, 50+ for blu ray. Sure, both systems are extremely powerful and can handle a great deal of processes, but at this point its not hitting its full potential
 
All Of You Are Missing The Point....... PS3 is more expensive, but more advanced. Plus you can buy one sell it on ebay, 100% Prof, then wait a bit longer and buy another one when the next shipment comes to America......Thats the "cost/benefit". In the end your jus buying your PS3 with profit from the first.
 
Do you have to have a HDMI port on the back of your HDTV to take advantage of 1080I with the PS3? Xbox you don't.......right? I'm sure in the hell not dropping another $ 1000+ just for HDMI.

Can someone please clarify 1080I on both systems?
 
1080i is available on both systems, and so is 720p.

720p is better than 1080i. i=interlaced, which skips certain lines, so you only have a portion of the 1080 horizontal lines to make up the picture. 720p is progressive, so you have all 720 horizontal lines to make the picture. 1080p is the big ps3 sell point, thats avaible on few TVs, all of which will run you over 3000 dollars. 1080p=all 1080 horizontal lines.
 
Right, because graphic quality is determined entirely by resolution.


With the release of every system people have always initially bitched about things like "this game plays choppy" or "the graphics really aren't all THAT good" but as soon as the first batch of rushed release games is gone and well designed, mega hit games are released everyone changes their mind.

I remember hearing the same exact story about the 360, PS 2, and every other system.

i have this monitor, but notice the max resolution isnt big enough for 1080p even though it DOES support 1080p. Will this be a good choice to play ps3 on. Will it look nice?

What is the highest resolution you can obtain by using the standard supply component cables supply in the xbox premium system......1080I? 720P?
 
Yes, the HD-DVD addon hooks to the 360 via a USB cable and you use your regular hook ups from your 360.

Let me add that if and when the movie studios enable HDCP on the disks the component cables will most likely not transmit the high-definition signals any more as the HDCP requires at least a HDMI. My tv is HDCP-DVI compliant and I'm not even sure that will work.
