i charged the battery on my kawasaki zx12r & now it wont start! anybody have a clue why?

more detail:while attempting to charge the battery i put the positive on a wire outside the battery tray. while doing that i heard a roaring or grinding sound. after that i hooked the battery charger up properly and once charged pushed the starter button and nothing(lights,horn do work though)
could i have messed up the starter?
 
check the basics first,stand down,in neutral,kill switch on,fuel on,blah blah blah etc.all these switches need to be correct or it won't crank.also check the main fuse next to the battery.but make sure its not just a dud battery.If it cranks but don't fire up check the fuel is on and full and that you haven't just flooded the engine.after that it gets difficult unless you know what you are doing.
