...that, it won't start!? When I try to start it, I just get one deep hard "clank" at the pan. Can someone possibly tell me what it might be? The batter is good and a new starter. I can't afford to take it to a professional garage.

It doesn't sound like the starter is engaging and it's a new starter. The starter spins, however I can hear that "clank" sound between the starter and the flywheel. Could the starter be not reaching the flywheel gear? Is the starter kicking into the flywheel & the flywheel's not spinning? Not sure. If the starter is not reaching the flywheel, then how do I adjust the starter? Or could it be that the "teeth" of the starter is too close or not close enough to the flywheel?

Need help! Any would be appreciated. Would like advice from a real good mechanic or someone who has had this experience before. Thanks!
