i changed the brakes on my 2001 honda and when i was putting the brake piston

back, brake fluid spewed out.W? 2001 Honda Civic.
when i was putting the brake piston back to its place with a c-clamp, brake fluid was leaking out of the brake fluid container. i had taken the top off because a friend of mine had told me to but didnt tell me why.

Why did this happend?
And should I add brake fluid to the brake fluid retainer?
 
well when you push the piston in on the caliber it pushes brake fluid bac to where it came from whish is the mastercylinder the reason to take the cap of the mastercylinder is to make less of a mess everything is fine though. i usaualy take a lil fluid out and add some new fluid
