For some reason I can only remember a few details of this book. So if it sounds like you something you have read let me know please.
It details this guys life growing up in Ireland. His father was a drunk and it seems like his mother was very sick..consumption? Something about getting sick from the river? Anyway it seems like I remember him also having a bunch of brothers and one being an ifant. They lived near a park or something where he would take his siblings to play. They would go to a small shop for food and would basically pay with an IOU. I remember it being very sad and telling of alot of poverty.
I think he ended up coming to America.
This is driving me crazy not being able to remember any details!
