I can't place the name of this cartoon?

I remember watching it as a child, but I don't remember a name. It has an almost Ferngully type animation. Its a story of machines/aliens having captured humans, who now work as their slaves. A boy, a girl and a young kid try and escape. There's a hilt involved in there somewhere.
