the tail lights work the brake lights just dont light up when brake is pressed down. Switch seems to be fine and all fuses are good. Any idea

I would look very closely at the switch above the brake arm. THis is the weakest part of the system and most likely to fail. My guess is that it is stuck or misadjusted so that it never closes (makes contact).

I would check all the fuses for the brakes. I know you stated that you checked them but they may be split between 2 fuses or more. I would check the wiring for continuity. With the fuses checked, the continuity test will confirm the switch is good. If the test comes out good then you should have lights. You can also do the continuity test at the switch but obvious its harder.

there are several things to check:
1. The brake light switch is activated by the brake pedal. Look under the driver's side dash and examine the brake pedal's arm. It releases a switch when depressed. This switch activates the brake lights. Is the switch in good condition or is it stuck shut? Replace if necessary.

2. your brake lightbulbs could be burned out. they are separate lightbulbs from your tail lights and turn signals. check and replace as needed.

3. use a multi meter to see if there is current to the brake lights or if a short exists.

4. If there's a short in your brake light wiring, you are screwed since jeep is a chrysler product.
