i can't figure out this riddle....?

A man walks into a bar and asks for a glass of water. The Man at the counter looks at him funny then points a shot gun at him. "Thank you" says the man, as he gets up and walks away. Why did the man act the way he did?
 
My guess is: When you get a shot of alcohol they use a shot gun. The bartender was using a "shot gun" (not a weapon) to pour water as well as alcohol. The man thanked the bartender for pouring him water.
 
Because in western times if you walked into a bar and order water you would be shot.You don't go in a bar to get water.The man got the point and thanked him(for not shooting him)an left
