i can't figure out my sprint samsung moment?

I want to forward a text and i can get to the forward screen but as I type my friend's names it does not come up. If I put in their phone number it tells me I don't have anyhting in the To: section.

Help me!
this phone is new and I am not finding a lot of talk on it!! Help!
