As a fellow teenager myself, I do not understand why teens engage in this reckless, pointless, and utterly useless custom. Their is no tangible benefit, time is wasted, and it is the cause of many social problems such as envy, hatred, sadness, anger and fear.
As an example that most teens date, today their was a grade 7-8 dance/party and most of my fellow peers went. I of course did not go, as I am here typing up this question. I asked my peers this similar question and their responses were as follows,"Because, its fun hanging out with hot chicks" " Why dont you come?" and of the likes.
I also do not understand the point of hanging out with girls at a school party. It accomplishes nothing, and is an utter waste of time. Anyway, since my peers could not provide a adequate answer, I hope you can.
