I Burned...

... my hand... with boiling oil. (it hurts)

Now that you've stopped laughing  I can tell you how calamari are evil, EVIL I tell you!!!

So, at home with some friends we bought 1 Kg of calamari (a la romana) you know covered with batter like onion rings, to fry. Since we have no fryer, I took a Wok filled it with oil... and wait for it to get hot enough.

When said oil was at the right temp, I started to put the calamari one by one, they're on this giant plastic bag, IT decided that it was a nice idea to slide off my right hand, then hit the Wok, which was thrown off balance and proceeded to send half of the boiling oil on my left hand and the kitchen floor.

Lucky for me, I reacted quickly put my under cold water, rinse to take away the oil, and more cold water.

Now my hand is covered in cream (for burns + moisturizing cream), it's just a little red, it doesn't hurt that much (thank you cream!), and the redness is despairing.

I'm writing with my unburned hand, took years to write this post.

So, Calamari ARE EVIL!! Stay away from them!! :flamed:

Well there is only way to deal with evil things- to EAT them. And that goes for eyeknow and his spiders as well. Hope your hand feels better.

The other day my mom came home at 9 pm and asked me why I hadn't made myself any food. My answer: "Because I wasn't hungry."

The truth: I refuse to touch stoves unless I'm starting to eat myself. The reason: I'm afraid of being burned with oil.

Not as bad as that, but I hate it when I'm frying eggs and some of the grease splatters on my hand. Good luck with the hand and healing and typing and stuff...

Byrning? Fuycking urning. Fuck burning. urning is for piessies and queers. :OL I am sory though, For real. Hope you heal. fadjhgkdaa

Clearly the wok was at fault and you should give calamari another shot. ( maybe only in restraunts for awhile )
Hope you have a speedy and painless recovery.

*fresh aloe helps alot with the pain

First thank you all for the words of comfort and get well msgs ^^

I'm sorry I can't answer you all, but typing with one hand is really tiering.

Yes, well a friend finished the cooking and we ate them as revenge! We even added lemon juice and Ice Tea :)

Indeed... but if it had been a deep fryer with my luck I would have spilled all the oil on the floor or my feet (I learn to keep fryers on the ground where they can't fall and with no kids around)

Next time I'll think about that!

I love to cook, and at 24 it's my first real cooking accident, I guess I'm lucky ^^... my mum on the other hand....

Well.. I'm guessing the calamari wanted to get free... from the bag hence pushing out of my hand, the wok wasn't mine so perhaps he was just scared!

I'm thinking calamari are so good I'll let someone else do their cooking next time!

As for aloe, I know but this stupid country where I live don't have them!!! (been looking to buy a plant but no luck)
For the moment I have a cream for solar burns, that's refreshing, and just solar protection cream is good too... moisturizes and protects.. and a little bandages to protect...

I have no redness or blisters, just a little more sensations and hitches than usual.
