I believe it's time for a massive debate! Ever heard of the Color Theory?

There's a theory that the color blue that you see might actually be the color green that I see, however, they both have distinct colors which is how we recognize them as blue or green. How can we know for sure if my red is the same as your red? What if what I see as red, is actually pink to you? Thoughts?
Even if each light has a distinct, mathematical value, different iris's could perceive it in different ways, right? Otherwise colorblindness would cease to exist!
 
Existentialism.....

However, I thought that light had like frequencies or something that have an actual mathmatical value. Therefore, if you see something as a different color than someone else, it's not subjective as an opinion, but more likely our minds ability to translate the color as it actually is....

But that's a really cool theory......
 
The colors that are described by the Color Wheel have been in existence since there has been, well, existence. However, the names that we use for them (or some archaic semblance resembling them) have only been around for about 1300 years. Other languages currently in use use have different color-names than the ones in our language.
 
It is different... its happend in some of my classes.
and it is because your eyes are not exact copies of my or you families and people have changed or ruined their eyes ability to capture and transmit that signal to your brain.. example computerholics who stair at screens all day or people who have welded and have flashed themselves(it hurts!)..
but the main difference, as previously stated, is that everyones eyes arnt the same.
 
If people didn't agree that red is red and pink is pink we wouldn't have names for them. Nobody is arguing that the U.S. flag is NOT red, white and blue. I think it's safe to say, that unless you're color blind, most people agree that red is in fact red and not pink.
 
sure. just as blind people have no idea of color we really have no proof that the colors we see are the same as other peoples. actually some people see pink as white.
 
Unless youre brain works in a totally different way than mine does, we will see red and agree it is the same color. Different colors are composed of different wavelengths of light. This light produces photochemical changes in certain compounds in the cones of your retina. These changes are conserved, so unless your color processing part of your brain is completely different from everyone elses, then you might see one wavelength or another.
 
It does not matter, it is completely irrelevant to our solipsist minds. I look at the sky, my mind interprets sees it as blue but your mind sees it as my pink, however we have learned colors through communication with other people, and you convert the sky's color (my pink) to the word you learned for it "blue" and we both call it by the same name. This simply cannot be verified, because i can never see the world through your mind and perceptions.
