I just beat my personal best Peak Flow by 30 points after using Ventolin. Is this my new Personal Best?

I've been doing peak flow readings for about a month and a half and my personal best was 350. I took some Ventolin (reliever) awhile ago, and my peak flow is up at 380. That makes it my new personal best, and I should recalculate my zones, right?

(I'd ask my doc, but I had an appointment with her yesterday, and her office is likely closed now).

Thanks!

Peak flow measurements don't really do much for me. I rely more on recognizing what my body is telling me to know when to use my rescue inhaler. I've had major asthma flare-ups occur without significant changes in peak flow.

It is certainly good to ask you doctor if you have specific questions about your asthma. That said, I will share what I have learned.

Based on my experience, my peak flow ranges are based on my overall average readings. I wouldn't change my ranges based upon a single reading. If you have been tracking for 1 1/2 months, you should have a pretty good idea of what your "normal" range is. I also wouldn't recommend making changes for a reading taken after use of your inhaler. It sounRAB like that isn't your normal everyday capacity. The purpose of your peak flow measurements is to help you know when you need to treat yourself. If you adjust your ranges based on a reading after having used your Ventolin, you won't have as much accuracy in knowing when you are truly in a lower range.
