I assume Sports Bikes are more likely to get stolen than a simple low powered Cruiser?

I'm asking a ton of questions about bikes because i'm on the verge of buying one, and i'm just one of those people that ask tons of questions. I just thought about theft... and i assume people would be more interested in stealing a CBR600Fei than a Honda VLX600.
IN addition, i live in an apartment complex, gated, but what is the best way to prevent theft?
 
You would be correct in making this assumption.

Recently my friends motorbike was stolen from near my area, so I have taken precautions and purchased a wheel lock, the only way they could take it now is if they loaded it onto the back of a truck and drove off. Which I would hear beforehand (I hope)
 
Any bike is likely to be stolen because they are easy targets. As long as you keep it chained up, or have a lock on the wheels you should be fine with what ever you choose to buy. There are alarms you can get also. If it's an easy target, and some one wants a little joy ride, they will take whatever is easiest to get a hold of .
 
Two things. First, don't assume because it is a cruiser that it's low powered. Not the case. Second. Unless it is a high end sports bike it would be less likely to be stolen since it is not worth as much to the thief unlike the cruiser, at least in my neck of the woods.
 
Like to ask questions eh? How 'bout at research? Not so much I figure. There should be data out there on stolen bikes. Oh lookie below
