I asked a girl to homecoming as a joke?

She said yes and now I am in a tight position. I can either go with her or I can just not go. I told her I was joking but she seemed a little upset. She is a friend of mine so I dont want her to be mad at me. What should i do or say to her?
 
A homecoming date is not something to joke about, it's too important. By asking her, you made a commitment, and your honor is at stake. Not going is not an option, unless you have a confirmed case of chicken pox. Besides, you say you're friends, so it can't be that bad. Go together, make it a special night, and have a good time.

it hurts when they do that, but imagine its painful to them too.

i think she wanted to go, even if your not going with her you should pay for her to go, it would be a nice thing to do after being so cruel
 
First of all- you were a jerk.

Now that that's out of my system: You should go with her. If you don't want to, you shouldn't have asked in the first place, joke or not. If the idea of going with her kills you inside, apologize and tell her you think it would be kind of awkward since you're friends. You might also want to say it was a dare from someone who wanted you guys together or something.
 
everyone makes mistakes don't worry about it, some girls take it too seriously but it's fine

i think you should just go with her because there's nothing to lose, if you have no other date then definitely. you only have one homecoming and if she's a good friend of yours it should be fun. tell her you want to go as friends if thats alright with her, and if she says okay and forgives you, then you're totally fine
 
You should apologize. Then you should be a man step up to the plate and take her and treat her like a lady. Little girls spend hours dreaming about proms and home coming dances. When they get to that age it is a really big deal for them. You should not jerk them around on these things. The only way to make this right is to actually take her. Trust me she has already spoken to her friends about this. If you take her it will reflect well on you. If not you will forever be remembered as a tool.
