I asked a girl to a dance and but i'm confused by her answer, Please help.?

okay today ( imma frosh)
i asked a girl to a dance ..i was like " hey you wanna go to the dance?" and she was like " yeah (smiling) , but can we go as friends?" and i was like " sure." and awkward silence and i was nervous for a while.
I was wondering what she meant by tht...
The dance is formal spring dance ( well semi formal) and we go in groups like homecoming.
IM CONFUSED HELP! DOES THIS MEAN THT SHES NOT GOING TO BE MY DATE FOR THE DANCE and I HAVE TO BUY MY TICKET AND GO ALONE WITH THE GROUP?
OR DOES IT MEAN THT SHE WILL GO WITH ME AS A "DATE" TO THE DANCE BUT NOT LIKE ROMANTICLY?
 
shes going to go with you as a friend man.

heres a good come back if it happens again.

"hey you wana dance with me" "only as friends" then you say "no, i dont think you herad me... i said you look fat in those pants" haha =P hope that helped
