I argued with my teacher today about my art being a waste of time?

I like to draw very Tim Burton-esque creatures in my spare time. At my school we have an Advisory class, where we either read to get our required book points (AR points) or if we have them, we can do whatever we want as long as we're not disruptive.

I got my AR point print-out to prove I had my points and could draw during my free period, and so I did. Then I got in trouble? This was our exchange:

Teacher: You need to be doing something constructive.
Me: *still drawing* How is art not constructive?
Teacher: Are you in art class?
Me: Not really; I don't have enough electives.
Teacher: Then you're not doing something constructive.
Me: Why would it matter if I'm in art class or not? Wouldn't it still be art, regardless?
Teacher: You need to be doing something constructive, and not...this.
Me: I still don't see why you think that art isn't constructive unless I'm in an actual art class.

My teacher also happens to have a very short temper, and called a kid's parents today for throwing away a paper he didn't need. I continued drawing after he walked up and said to my friend, "Fine. He can send me to the office if he wants. I'll just go be creative there."

How can he tell me that my drawing is wasting my time, and isn't constructive? This made me exceedingly angry, so sorry for all the details. ^^"

My arguement is as follows:
This is art, no matter if I'm in an official art class or not. To be artistic, one is usually creative. To create is to construct. I am being constructive.

I know it's a slippery slope, but isn't it true? It just made me mad.
What am I supposed to do when he does this again tomorrow?
