OKay, i'm writing a book and I've picked out a place and got all of the works sorted out. but I am just wondering if I chose of Inn for the main character to stay in and its a real inn do i have to email and ask the place if i can use them in my book of its okay. i'll be using them in a clean way. there will be nothing bad or slanderous said against them.

I think that as long as everything you say is true, and you don't make up anything directed at the hotel, for example like, All the Holiday Inns let wild animals run through them, I think it is legal but I'm not sure, about 83% sure.

you may want to get permission or change the name in your book, or the location of the inn. You never know when somebody will try to sue you.

It should be fine if you say absolutely nothing slanderous against them. It's perfectly legal.

Still, I personally think it would be easier just to make up the name of an inn. It would be original and there would be of course be no risk of a lawsuit.
