...affordable camera? I have a basic point and shoot camera but am looking for something a little nicer.
i dont have a set budget in mind since i have no idea what they even range. :-) i just had the urge to try photography out as a hobby and wondered what would be a good starter camera to see if i like it and want to pursue it.
 
Canon Rebel, either an XTi, XS, or XSI ($250, $300, $400+) are my suggestions for canon. There's also one even older, Digital Rebel, 6mp, probable $200 used, but still decent to learn.

Cameras mean very little overall, the quality comes so much more from lights and lenses. I've been shooting professionally for a few years, and on occasion, still shoot using my old backup body, the XTi.

Examples taken with a $250 XTi and a $100 50mm 1.8 --- Cheap, but effective and good to learn on.
