I am thinking about buying an iphone and had just a few questions...?

Hello and here is the answer to your questions

MMS MESSAGES: YES
VIDEO: NOPE

you should familiarize yourself a bit just to make sure you don't get the short end of a deal and be safe. I have EXACTLY THIS PHONE that you're talking about 3g. heres a lil advice

3GS takes video and also has mms messages
3g can send and recieve MMS messages but not take video
and anything before that is prolly not worth getting.

keep in mind the 4g IS coming out in a few months so the 3GS phones will be probably cheaper and be popping up more and more. especially on craigslist since (LIKE ME) I would want to sell my perfect good phone just for a newer model. Any other questions just let me know but take it from me....PEOPLE ARE CONVERTING TO IPHONES haha. me and my group of friends (10 people) have slowly seen this in our group haha. last year I got the first one...and than slowly our group each got theirs too haha its been awesome.

So yeah eventually everyone will get oen I think and yeah once you have one you'll never want another phone very great phones.
 
I am thinking about buying an iphone 3G off craigslist. It is currently running 3.1.3 firmware. I am not familiar with iphones and was wondering if this means it can send and receive MMS messages and if it can take video as well. Thank you very much for your help, as I don't want to buy an iphone without these features.

Yes you can send and receive MMS, even with an AT&T iPhone plan. You'll have to check with the provider you plan to use if this phone is unlocked and make sure they support MMS.
No, you can not take videos unless you purchase a 3rd party app from the app store-- I use the cleverly titled "Record Video on iPhone 2G/3G" from a company called "dw-c" and am very pleased with it. The current price for that app is a modest $1.99-- not a bad price to turn a 3G phone into about three-quarters of a 3GS phone!
