I am so confused ! ! Dishpro

OK, I am a mechanical guy and will never claim to know anything about electronics. Below is a picture of exactly the system I have in my house. I want to replace the 4700 with a 9242 but not run another cable for the second input on the 9242. (All my cables so far are in the walls) Is the DPP LNB and separator the only way I can go to run a 9242 and the 6000 on the existing wiring in my house? I have been reading here about DPP LNB's and separators and frankly I don't quite understand how they work. This is just my guessing but from the pictures of the LNB in another post, the SW21 switches must be internal on the DPP and the 2 outputs together are the ones I would use and the third output by itself is not used. Is this the only way I can do this?

You can't link us to your computer (which you tried to do in the first post). You need to upload the pictures to a picture sharing site like Flickr, imageshack or similar. You then paste the URL from there into your post.

Someone should be able to answer your question without the picture, as I believe Dishpro equipment can help you, but I'm not a BEV expert.
 
Have a read through the 9200 Installation 101 thread here at DHC. The first few posts show several examples of how to connect a 9200 (same as the 9242) using DishProPlus equipment. Most of the questions that can be asked on the topic have already been answered there.

To answer your question, the DPP equipment is the only way to activate a 9242 using the one existing cable. Unfortunately Bell doesn't officially support this equipment, but the receivers do.

Thanks to 57 and Scrooloose. I'll catch on to this thing eventually. It's starting to get thru my head that I can't just buy a 9242 (or 9200) hook it up and get what I want. I guess I'll wait until I actually need a new receiver and just pick up a DVD with a hard drive for the interim. BEV HD is so compressed now, recording HD recorded in SD thru an S-Video isn't actually that bad to watch.
 
Well, you can but you need to either run a a second line to the 9242 and use the equipment Bell provides in the box, or use the DishPro Plus equipment. Post #1 in that thread I mentioned would give you exactly what you need for both receivers (although no additional ports for more receivers).

There has been a rumor of a single tuner PVR from Bell called a 9241 (the "1" meaning one tuner). It would be ideal for your situation, but I don't know if it will ever appear. BEV may have scrapped that plan.

OK, from Scrooloose post #4 above, based on the link to the "9200 install" guide, my system is set up the same as example 4 with two SW21 switches coming fom the dual LNB's. Then 2 RG6 cables from the SW21 switches into the house. But instead of 1-9200 my two leads go to the 4700 and the 6000. So if I have this straight in me head: I leave my Bell dish itself alone. Take off the dual Bell LNB's and put on a DPP twin LNB. I assume I will no longer need the SW21 switches. Put my two RG6 cables onto the DPP twin. One cable will go to the 6000, the other cable will go to a new 9242 with the DPP Separator to provide two lines into the 9242. Is this correct? If so, that's not too bad. Oh, and I guess I should ask if the DPP stuff will work with the 6000?
 
You have that 100% correct.

If at any stage you decide to add any further receivers you would just add a DPP44 on the 2 lines at a common point in the house, giving you instantly 4 outputs, each capable of running a Dual Tuner with a Seperator. That DPP44 can then be expanded to a total of 3 x DPP44's giving you 12 outlets all from the initial 2 lines into the house.

It is ludicrous that Express Vu have not moved to DP or DPP technology yet.
 
OK further to Nimiq 1's comments, can I use a switch to separate just one of the outputs from the LNB? IE: Since my RG6 is buried in the walls, could I use one output from the LNB to a 9242, then split the second LNB output with a DPP44 or whatever, to two other receivers or do both LNB outputs need to go to the DPP44 then separate to three receivers from there in which case the DPP44 would have to be outside by the dish? Then what do I do with the power inserter, it doesn't look robust enough to be outside?
 
It is not possible to split one line to 2 receivers, so you would have to mount the DPP44 outside, use the feed to the 9242 as the line for the Power Inserter, mounted behind the 9242 and before the Separator.

Then you would have to run another line from the DPP44 to your 3rd receiver.
 
Thanks for the answer Nimiq 1. My system has been trouble free for so long I really had no need to learn much about it. Now I am wallowing at the deep end of the pool. Folks like you make it much easier.
