There is no need to be scared. The point of the census is not to look for illegal aliens. It is a constitutionally required procedure that the government engages in every ten years to make sure that resources are allocated properly. The information is gathered for statistical purposes. The law protects the privacy of your answers. If a census taker shares your information with anyone, she could got to prison for five years. http://2010.census.gov/2010census/privacy/index.php

There are only ten questions in the census. (How many people live here generally? How many temporarily? Apartment, house, or mobile home? Phone number (so they can call instead of knocking on your door to fill in blanks)? Residents' names? Residents' sex? Resident's age and date of birth? Hispanic (to make sure that enough bilingual programs and resources are available)? Race? More than one residence (so you don't get counted twice)?) The website explains why each question is asked. http://2010.census.gov/2010census/how/interactive-form.php

When people are counted, the government knows how to fairly apportion funds to different communities. If you and your community do not take part, your community will receive less money, fewer services, and less political representation. Do not let anyone scare you from taking part? It is in your best interest to be counted.

The government website below gives you full details on what, how, and why? There's even a Spanish language site. http://2010.census.gov/espanol/

The other websites below are funny SNL videos about the census. Enjoy.

from Census & want to ask questions? I'm scared because 2 days in a row this lady has rang our bell and wants to ask us Census questions, but this time we don't want to participate. In 1990 when when they did the last Census lots of Latinos threw them away for obvious reasons, why are they bothering us for this Census, I'm scared?
