i am planting a garden, should i put worms in the ground first?

I would be adding compost into your soil before you plant to give everything a really good head start in their growing cycle.

Do that and the worms will come all by themselves.
 
I wouldn't bother with the worms for 2 reasons: 1) they are in the soil already & 2) they will attract more birds that you can fight off.

As for planting it depends where you live & what you plan on planting. If you are planting bulbs let the ground warm up a little first. If you are planting small plants try leaving them in their pots but putting them outside during the day and bring them back in at night for about a week so that they get used to the temperature.
